See pricingWhat an AI Overview tracker measures, and why rankings are not enough
An AI Overview is the AI-generated summary Google shows above the regular results for many searches, with links to the pages it drew on. Google decides search by search whether to show one, and the pages it cites are not always the ones ranking first underneath. A page-one ranking does not guarantee a citation, and a citation does not need a page-one ranking.
Search Console counts AI Overview clicks and impressions inside its normal Web totals, so it cannot tell you whether you were cited, or who was cited instead. An AI Overview tracker fills that gap: it runs your prompts as Google searches and records whether an overview appeared, which brands it named, and which pages it linked.
GEOflux tracks AI Overviews as an add-on, in the same project as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Want to check whether a single page is structured for AI answers first? Try the free AI Overview readiness checker. For Google's conversational mode, see the AI Mode tracker.

How GEOflux tracks your brand in AI Overviews
We run your prompts as real Google searches and read the overview, not the blue links.
Real Google searches
Each prompt runs as a Google search in your project's country. When Google shows an AI Overview, we capture it as shown, with the pages it links to. When it shows none, we record that the search had no overview.
Mentions and citations
We read every overview for brand mentions, competitor mentions, sentiment and the pages it cites. Only the overview's own sources count as citations. The regular results below it are not counted.
Trends and alerts
Results roll up into Share of Voice, visibility % and sentiment trends, next to your other engines. Alerts email you when your visibility, Share of Voice or sentiment crosses a line you set.
Everything you need to track AI Overviews
From the searches you track to the pages that win the citation.
URL-level citation sources
Every page an AI Overview cites, counted by frequency and brand share. See which of your pages Google uses, and which competitor pages it uses instead.
Competitor Share of Voice
Track up to 9 competitors on Growth (4 on Starter) on the same searches, and see who the overview names when it does not name you.
Personas
Run the same prompt framed for different buyers, and see whether the overview changes with the audience.
Sentiment
Every mention is scored from 0 to 10, so you can spot an overview that describes you poorly before it spreads.
Next to your other engines
AI Overviews sit in the same project as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, on the same prompts, so you can compare Google's answer with the rest.
Watchlists and alerts
Watch the domains that matter to you, and get an email when your visibility, Share of Voice or sentiment crosses a line you set.
Who uses the AI Overviews tracker?
SEO leads
You already track rankings. Add the layer above them: whether Google's overview cites you for the same searches.
Agencies
Report AI Overview citations to clients in shareable reports, next to their other AI engines.
Content teams
Find the pages that rank but do not get cited, and the competitor pages that do, then decide what to update.
Brand and PR teams
See how Google's overview describes your brand when someone searches your category.
How to get cited in AI Overviews
Google says there is nothing special to do beyond good SEO. These are the parts of good SEO that matter most here.
Keep your pages indexable and snippet-eligible
Google's only stated requirement for appearing in AI features is that a page is indexed and eligible to show a snippet. Check that the pages you want cited are not blocked, noindexed or limited by nosnippet.
Hold your rankings on the searches that matter
Overviews draw on pages Google already considers relevant. A strong classic ranking is not a guarantee of a citation, but losing it rarely helps.
Answer the question early
Lead each section with a direct answer, then the detail. Clear headings, short paragraphs, lists and tables make it easier to cite one specific claim.
Compare cited pages with your own
When a competitor page is cited and yours is not, read both. The gap is usually coverage of a sub-question, freshness, or a clearer answer.
Refresh pages that drop out
Track citations over time. When one of your pages stops being cited, check what changed on the page and in the overview, and update it.

Frequently asked questions about AI Overviews tracking
Add the prompts your buyers search for to a GEOflux project and switch on the AI Overviews add-on. Each prompt runs as a Google search in your project's country. GEOflux records whether an overview appeared, whether it mentioned your brand and your competitors, and which pages it cited, then builds Share of Voice, visibility and sentiment trends from it.
Yes. GEOflux keeps the list of pages each overview links to, at domain and URL level, and shows how often each one is cited across your prompts. You can see which of your own pages Google uses and which competitor pages it picks instead.
Only inside the totals. Google counts clicks and impressions from AI Overviews in Search Console's normal Web search type, without a separate filter. It also cannot show whether you were cited in an overview or who was cited instead. That is the gap an AI Overview tracker fills.
No. Gemini, AI Overviews and AI Mode all use Gemini models, but they are separate surfaces that answer different searches and often cite different pages. GEOflux tracks each one separately, in the same project: Gemini on every plan, AI Overviews and AI Mode as add-ons.
Google says there are no extra requirements or special schema for AI Overviews: a page needs to be indexed and eligible for a snippet. Structured data still helps Google understand a page, and clear structure helps any system lift an accurate answer, but there is no markup that switches citations on.
Google does not show an overview for every search, and local or where-to-buy searches often get none. GEOflux records those runs as having no overview, so you can see how often your searches trigger one at all.
The free AI Overview readiness checker looks at one page and scores how well it is structured for AI answers. It does not show live overviews. The tracker runs your searches in Google over time and records whether overviews appear, who they name and which pages they cite.
One credit per prompt, on top of the three your base engines use. It is an add-on on Starter and Growth and during the 14-day trial, switched on per project. It is not part of the Free plan.
Every plan, including Free, tracks ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. On Starter and Growth, and during the 14-day trial, you can also switch on Claude, Grok, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews for any project. These add-ons are paid in credits: 3 per prompt for Claude, Grok and Copilot, 1 for Google AI Mode and AI Overviews. All engines report into the same dashboard, so you can compare how each one answers the same prompt.
